The MACS-Lift: Short-Scar Rhytidectomy

By Patrick L. Tonnard, M.D. and Alexis M. Verpaele, M.D.
The MACS-Lift is rapidly gaining popularity among patients and surgeons. It is a full facelift that can be performed with local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The operation can be completed in two hours, and most patients return to normal activity within two weeks. Its minimal duration makes it both safe and practical for use in conjunction with laser resurfacing and other facial cosmetic procedures. This remarkably effective technique is minimal in every way, resulting in a shorter scar, reduced morbidity, and few complications reported in more than 200 cases.
This beautiful atlas details the MACS-lift operation in its entirety. Every step, from first to last, is clearly described and accompanied with photos and illustrations to explain the nuances of the technique. A chapter devoted to case examples presents some results of simple and extended MACS-lifts. Additional chapters discuss secondary and ancillary procedures as well as complications and problems that may arise.
An in-depth DVD accompanies the book and demonstrates every aspect of this innovative surgery. Additional animation complements descriptions and emphasizes key concepts contained in the book. The video shows the entire procedure from preoperative markings to final suturing of the skin flap with preoperative and postoperative results.

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology "The text is truly a manual and an atlas successfully educating this simpler, less aggressive approach to face-lifting procedures ... [it] is an excellent bridge for the advanced dermatologic surgeon to step up to surgical redraping procedures ... [and] for the experienced surgeon with a background in facial anatomy, reconstructive facial surgery and an appreciation for aesthetic surgery. It is very readable and truly adds a new direction to our knowledgebase."

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Journal "With the current trend toward noninvasive procedures, this timely, well-written text introduces the surgeon to one of the newer short scar rhytidectomy techniques ... Drs. Tonnard and Verpaele have produced a well-written text and compact disc that clearly demonstrate the general principles of the minimal access cranial suspension lift. The text is well illustrated with high-quality figures. The book should be of interest to experienced surgeons as well as to beginners in the field of rhytidectomy." (June 2005)
The European Journal of Plastic Surgery "Patrick Tonnard and Alexis Verpaele are to be congratulated on developing a concept which has simplified facial rejuvenation and, perhaps more important than that, they have increased safety in face lifting ... If you wish to learn a relatively quick, nontraumatic, and safe method of face lifting which can be revised easily, this is the book for you." (2004)
American Society for Dermatologic Surgery ?€?This is a very reader-friendly book. The authors?€™ enthusiasm practically bursts out of the pages. They even provide an e-mail address for suggestions or calls for help. This is just the kind of thinking that helps advance the specialty of esthetic surgery. This book would be a wonderful addition to the library of any physician who performs face-lifting procedures.?€? (2005)
Head & Neck ?€?Ultimately, the technique chosen for rejuvenation surgery depends on a balancing of risk versus reward. The risks of this technique seems to be low, and the rewards are evident. This book belongs in the library of the surgeon who is continuing the quest to minimize risk and maximize reward in facial rejuvenation surgery.?€? (January 2005)
